Sam Simon Is The Magic Behind The Motivation To Give

Speaking with Sam Simon,you would never know that, as a child, he was quiet and shy. Magic, he says, is what helped pull him out of his shell and launch a career that has taken him around the world. Simon parlayed his love of magic into a one-man show that motivates and inspires his audiences.

This month, Simon is again providing the entertainment and serving as master of ceremonies at JARC’s annual gala and fundraiser for the second year.

He’s no stranger to the nonprofit organization, which provides programs and services to educate and empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Simon started as a volunteer several years ago, helping to sell raffle tickets and do whatever else was needed. Leadership liked him so much that they hired him to emcee their fashion show, cocktail events and annual gala.

“The results go beyond just entertaining an audience,” Simon says. “I am a part of something that brings the necessary funds to these extra-ordinary men and women.”

JARC operates 10 group homes in Boca Raton and Delray Beach for adults with developmental disabilities. It offers apartment living for those who do not require 24-hour supervision as well as vocational training.

Simon isn’t your typical emcee, he says.

“I bring humor, audience interaction and magic. I want people to walk away feeling as though they were entertained – while at the same time they are happy to give money,” says Simon, who adds that the organization broke all fundraising goals last year. “It’s about getting people caught up in the moment.”

Simon uses magic to educate his audience and get them to listen to a message they might not normally hear.

“Not only do they see a cool trick, but they also walk away with a great message,” he says.
