Carl Marbach Makes The Luxurious More Affordable

Carl Marbach, founder and CEO of SharedCharter, doesn’t sugarcoat the facts: Chartering a private plane is expensive. Still, he’s found a way to make something luxurious, safe, convenient and time-saving more affordable.

You’re not limited by aircraft or location. They work with any jet company and fly to and from airports around the world, with a focus on North America. Then, you can have secure and anonymous communication before you finalize a flight agreement. The more travelers who share the flight, the lower the cost.

“It’s still not going to be inexpensive or cheap,” says Marbach. “But it’s more affordable than if you go by yourself.”

Charters are regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and are subject to FAA regulations. Most planes hold a minimum of six seats. “Our clients are looking for something a step up from first class,” he says. Get dropped off at the plane’s door and avoid airport check-in, crowds and full flights. “They want extra comfort, convenience and efficiency.” He realizes it’s not an economical way to fly. “We know that step is an awfully big one financially,” he says. “We’re trying to help cut the cost for potential charter fliers.”

Marbach has been involved in aviation for more than 60 years. He co-founded AVweb, an online aviation magazine and its e-newsletter AVflash. Marbach has been a commercial pilot and owned seven airplanes, including one he built. “It seemed to me that there were an awful lot of empty seats,” he says. “I want to utilize those seats and cut the cost for everybody.” To Marbach, his service is a no-brainer. “Travelers win. Plane operators win. Nobody loses,” he says. “When everyone wins, it’s a good idea.”
