Chuck Halberg began working in the construction business as a teenager sweeping floors. By the time he was 18 years old, he was handed the responsibility of overseeing a 132-unit townhome project in his home state of Michigan.

When an opportunity presented itself to work in Florida in 1980, Halberg packed his bags and never looked back. After stints as an executive for three Top 200 builders, Halberg, a Florida licensed general contractor since 1986, decided to launch his own company in 2006 – Stuart & Shelby Development Inc. Named after his two sons, the company provides new builds and renovations for single-family homes and multi-family buildings.

“We are a complete turnkey general contractor and can provide architectural and design services in addition to all permitting and contracting services,” Halberg says. “We have long-term relationships with many local vendors who help us to obtain competitive pricing and excellent service.”

His 13-member staff includes a director of construction, six project managers, customer service representatives and friendly office staff. Stuart & Shelby is known for its top-notch customer service and attention to detail.

“We take the time to listen to what our clients want and to understand their needs and help them get there,” says Halberg. “It’s the hallmark of our business.”

He says his firm’s sweet spot is the construction of custom-built homes between 3,000 and 12,000 square feet. His past clients include wealthy individuals, celebrities, sports figures and musicians. The company currently has 22 projects ongoing, including a major renovation on a 10,000-square-foot home in Delray Beach, renovations on two homes in Stone Creek Ranch, a custom home in Delray Beach and seven luxury townhomes in North Palm Beach. 

Halberg gets most of his business through referrals. He’s very involved in the local community, donating his time and money to a variety of causes and projects, including The Arts Garage and the Atlantic Community High School Eagle Nest Construction Academy. He’s also received numerous community service awards.

“I get tremendous satisfaction from helping others not only through my work, but also through volunteering,” Halberg says.
