Divorce is difficult. It doesn’t have to be devastating.

There are few things that couples getting divorced agree on.

One item they do feel mutually about is that they want a divorce that’s cost-effective, streamlined, confidential and protective of their children and hard-earned assets.

With decades of divorce litigation experience in New York City and Florida, Mara Bernstein is meeting this demand. She provides her clients with alternatives to expensive, prolonged and often destructive divorce litigation.

“People have a misconception that a non-litigation divorce lawyer only handles cases that are amicable and involve routine, noncomplex issues. Nothing could be further from the truth. My clients have the same issues and conflicts as my former litigation clients. The difference is that these clients hire me so they don’t have to leave their fate and the fate of their children to the litigation system, which is replete with delay, uncertainty, enormous expense and chaos. We all know many who have horrible divorce stories. My clients want a different divorce.”

Litigation is necessary in cases of abuse, failure to abide by court orders and agreements and lack of transparency. For those cases, her litigation co-counsel steps in and uses other proven effective skills in the court room. But, in the vast majority of cases, this is absolutely not necessary. “I work in partnership with my clients, helping them achieve their goals and objectives in a private, focused and strategic process,” says Bernstein. “As an advocate, counselor and confidante my role is to get my clients the best outcome possible.”

Her practice focuses on private non-litigation divorce including pre-suit settlement negotiations; Collaborative Divorce law; mediation with forensic accountants and/or child specialists; consulting and private divorce retreats; pre-divorce strategic planning and negotiation; and prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.

Bernstein is admitted to practice in New York and Florida and is an accredited and experienced Collaborative Divorce, Florida Supreme Court Certified divorce mediator and trained Guardian Ad Litem. “After years of practice, I’m clear about what I do, how I do it and how much better it is for my clients and their families.”

A graduate of Cornell University and Brooklyn Law School, Bernstein lives in Palm Beach County and has two daughters.
