Piza, M.D., a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with the Orthopedic and Sports Institute – Palm Beach Health Network Physician Group. With 25 years of experience, Dr. Piza and his team help people who are hurting get back to their normal life.
Dr. Piza performs orthopedic procedures including hip, knee and shoulder replacement, as well as shoulder and knee arthroscopic repair. Dr. Piza has been a part of the orthopedic trauma team at Delray Medical Center for the last 18 years performing complex fracture repair. “I love helping people get back to living life to the fullest, whether it is working, enjoying sports or spending quality time with their family. I like seeing my patients come back to life as they regain the ability to walk and move again after being in the hospital.”
Dr. Piza keeps in mind his humble beginnings, remembering several doctors in his family that practiced medicine in his native Puerto Rico that would give him the encouragement to become a doctor. He truly cares about his patients. “I strive to guide my patients back to good orthopedic health.”
For the past 18 years, Dr. Piza has worked as an orthopedic surgeon at Delray Medical Center and West Boca Medical Center serving the communities of Palm Beach and Broward Counties. Dr. Piza has served as an Associate Master Instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America, teaching shoulder surgery techniques to surgeons from around the world. He works with industry professionals to improve new technologies and has developed rotator cuff repair techniques and shoulder anchors to help perform surgery with ease and improve results. Dr. Piza has participated in clinical research on growth factor-soaked patches to treat massive rotator cuff tears and has presented his work at numerous medical conferences, locally and abroad.
Dr. Piza is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is fellowship-trained in knee, shoulder and elbow reconstruction and sports medicine. His fellowship was conducted at Plancher Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Greenwich, Conn. and New York, N.Y. He finished a residency in orthopedic surgery and an internship in general surgery at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Center in San Juan after he received his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine.
