In Boca Raton, the older population is unique. They seem to age better and live longer than those in other parts of the country. That’s because they’re active and functional. It is not uncommon for many 80- or 90-year-old patients to still be good candidates for certain complex heart procedures.

That’s where The Arrhythmia Center of South Florida in Delray Beach can help. This group of electrophysiologists specialize in electrical disorders of the heart. They treat cardiac rhythm disorders (arrhythmias) of all varieties, too slow, too fast or irregular. They often also treat life-threatening arrhythmias. Treatment options include surgical device therapy, such as a pacemaker or defibrillator, or catheter ablation to burn or freeze abnormal electrical tissue. They also offer percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion, which can help prevent strokes. “Having the ability to make people feel better and live longer is a privilege,” says Luis F. Mora, M.D., a board-certified clinical cardiac electrophysiologist. “Patients come to us with a problem impacting their quality of life. We can improve their symptoms, often permanently. In some cases, we can also prevent very tragic occurrences, such as sudden cardiac death. It is very rewarding to see patients improve or be saved by treatment we provided.”

Yoel R. Vivas, M.D., F.H.R.S., founder of the practice, raves about how the practice is on top of new technology. “We embrace new procedures,” he says. “Few groups can do the type and quality of procedures that we do.” He has been practicing cardiac electrophysiology in Boynton Beach, Boca Raton and Delray Beach area since 2012.

Dr. Vivas is the only electrophysiologist in South Florida who is also board certified in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. He is also a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society.

Dr. Mora adds that you’ll benefit from the team’s experience. “We are an experienced practice,” he says. “We love what we do and are proud of what we have achieved but are also always thinking of what’s next and how to grow. We remain very engaged with all academic and research aspects of our field.”
