More than 1,500 people recently tapped, pirouetted, bebopped and twirled their way through the Kravis Center’s National Dance Day festival in a free event honoring the center’s 30th anniversary.
The event featured mini performances from local dance companies and workshops in a variety of dance styles that all ages enjoyed. Tiffany Maher, female runner-up from Season 9 of the TV show “So You Think You Can Dance” taught the crowd the national dance routine, which was choreographed by Derek Hough and fiancée, Hayley Erbert, along with TikTok stars, Cost n’ Mayor.
“We are honored to have been selected by American Dance Movement as one of three National Dance Day host sites throughout the country,” said Tracy C. Butler, Director of Education at the Kravis Center. “National Dance Day was the perfect event to kick off the Kravis Center’s 30th anniversary and our commitment to engaging the local community in free, fun events at the center. We are excited to celebrate 30 years of live entertainment with a season of magic, music and unforgettable moments that you do not want to miss!”
At the National Dance Day festival, participants learned dance styles such as Indian Fusion, Contemporary African dance, Fosse Jazz Theater dance, French Method Ballet, Hip Hop and Broadway Tap. There were also performances from Miami City Ballet, Fred Astaire Dance Studio, Ballet Palm Beach, Demetrius Klein Dance Company and Ballet Florida. Pop-up performances included local dancers from Dreyfoos School of the Arts, Bak Middle School of the Arts, and a Salsa Demonstration from Dancecrush.
The national holiday, recognized by Congress, is dedicated to supporting and sharing the joys and benefits of dance and movement.
