Boca Helping Hands Calls For Community Support For Annual Thanksgiving Box Brigade Program
Boca Helping Hands (BHH), a nonprofit organization committed to improving the quality of life for individuals and families through food, medical and financial assistance, is calling on the community’s support to help distribute meals to families in need this Thanksgiving.
BHH’s 20th annual Thanksgiving Box Brigade program, which provides families with a turkey and a box filled with the ingredients and tools necessary to prepare a holiday meal, is set to feed approximately 14,160 people this year.
Turkeys and Thanksgiving meal boxes will be distributed to BHH’s Pantry Bag Program clients the weekend before Thanksgiving (Nov. 23-24) at its five drive-thru distribution locations in east Boca Raton, west Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Boynton Beach and Lake Worth.
“We are deeply appreciative of the community’s efforts each year with their food drives and Thanksgiving box donations,” said BHH Executive Director Greg Hazle. “Thanks to their kindness, families who might not have had the means to celebrate can now share a holiday meal together.”
Although there has been tremendous community support for the Thanksgiving Box Brigade program since its inception, food insecurity remains a year-round challenge. One in nine people in Palm Beach County face difficulty putting food on the table. According to the 2024 Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) Report for Florida, 46% of Palm Beach County households struggle to make ends meet, with 12% living below the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and 35% earning above the FPL but still unable to afford basic necessities.
