Boca Helping Hands (BHH), a community-based nonprofit that provides food, medical and financial assistance to individuals and families in need, will host, for the fourth year in a row, its Tackle Hunger Cereal Drive. Put together with Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Athletics and Cereal4All, the event will take place during the FAU vs. Florida International University (FIU) game on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. at the FAU Stadium in commemoration of September’s Hunger Action Month.
“Attending the game is a fantastic opportunity to support our local community while enjoining football,” says Greg Hazle, executive director of BHH. “Cereal is often overlooked in donations, which means many families and children miss out on a healthy start to their day.”
Cereal4All is a nonprofit started by Boca Raton’s 16-year-old twin brothers, Jett and Luke Justin. After volunteering at BHH, Jett and Luke organized their first cereal drive for BHH at their school in 2016 when they were just 8 years old. The boys have since expanded the program to 20 schools in Palm Beach County as well as in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Texas and Washington.
“Too many families in our community struggle with food insecurity and lack daily access to breakfast food in their homes,” Luke says. “By donating cereal at Tackle Hunger, you can help give breakfast to people in need while watching some awesome college football at the same time.”
Jett adds: “The box of cereal you donate will fill somebody’s empty bowl. Their day will get off to a better and happier start because of you.”
