Delray Beach Playhouse Presents Annual Festival Of New Plays Oct. 19-20
The Delray Beach Playhouse, one of South Florida’s oldest nonprofit community theater venues, is bringing back its celebrated Festival of New Plays, Oct. 19-20. Featuring 10 one-act plays written, directed and performed by local talent, the festival showcases the diversity and creativity of South Florida’s thriving theatrical community.
Festival Director and Co-Founder Marianne Regan continues to build on the festival’s success with exciting new developments: “We have three new directors this year as well as several new playwrights. Some of our returning playwrights have accumulated their own following.”
She adds, “And as we did last year with a ‘sneak peek’ of our stand-alone story, ‘Tell Me A Story,’ this Festival will also feature two new performers and their personal-story monologues. So many people have a story to tell, and this is one way for us to give them that space to tell it.”
As in previous years, the festival will present five new plays on Saturday, Oct. 19, and another five on Sunday, Oct. 20. This year’s lineup include “Daddy Speaks” by Sam Leven, “Ghost and Ghosted” by Kathryn Ryan, “Infomercial” by Judy Marilyn Goldstein, “The Family Tree” by Laura Ratto and “Tale of the Tiger’s Ring” by Todd Caster. Additional playwrights include Jim Bisco, Allison Fradkin, Katherine H. Vellis, Jeff Perlman and Ambar Colon.
“I truly had no idea that South Florida was so chock-full of incredible talent both on and off the stage,” Regan says. “Our playwrights are amazing, our actors are extraordinary, and our audience members continue to support us year after year.”
As it enters its 77th year, the Delray Beach Playhouse continues to grow its productions and attract new audiences, ensuring the future of this esteemed theater for generations to come.
