On Sept. 12, the Hanley Foundation and the National Association for Children Impacted by Addiction (NACoA) will showcase “Through A Child’s Eyes: Understanding Addiction and Recovery,” a community event that supports children growing up in families affected by addiction.
Attendees will learn about Hanley Foundation’s new three-day Children’s Family Program, which offers immediate and long-term support and services to children and their families impacted by addiction to drugs and alcohol. The program is being developed in collaboration with NACoA’s Senior Clinical Advisor, Jerry Moe, a renowned author, speaker and consultant known for creating the popular Sesame Street Muppet character, Karli, whose family is facing addiction, and Peggy McGillicuddy, NACoA’s Director of Children’s Programs, who was worked in the field of mental health and addiction for over 20 years.
During the event, Moe will walk attendees through his book “Understanding Addiction and Recovery Through a Child’s Eyes: Hope, Help, and Healing for Families.” McGillicuddy will share prevention strategies, essential resources and key messages that can positively impact the healing journey of children and their families affected by addiction.
Since children are the first hurt and last helped when growing up with a loved one battling addiction, the event will also explore the healing stages for children and how to make a difference in their lives.
“Through A Child’s Eyes: Understanding Addiction and Recovery” is scheduled for Sept. 12 at West Palm Beach’s Hanley Resource Auditorium at 10:30 a.m.
