Alex Rosemurgy knows there’s no place like home. The Boca native developer had stints in Tallahassee and Tampa, but found himself right back where he started contributing to the city he loves for generations to come. Rosemurgy is responsible for constructing Uptown Boca, a new mecca of apartments, restaurants and shopping in West Boca and University Park, a resort-style student housing complex near the Florida Atlantic University campus.
“I am able to build great projects in my hometown that hopefully lift the community, make it a better place to live, and I get to experience it myself,” says Rosemurgy, CEO of Rosemurgy Properties and co-managing partner of Park Partners Residential.
The 48-year-old is the second generation Rosemurgy to run the Boca Raton-based company his now-retired father founded in 1977. He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Florida State University, but adds it was the conversations about the business during mealtimes with his father that fueled his interest in the industry.
“I got my MBA at the dining room table,” he jokes. Prior to college, he attended Alexander D. Henderson University School, where his daughters ages 8 and 11 now attend, followed by Saint Andrew’s School for high school.
If his daughters, nieces or nephews want to become third-generation leaders at Rosemurgy Properties, he says that’d be a “magical moment,” but just like nothing was handed to him on a silver platter, they’d have to work their way up the corporate ladder.
“My parents told me, ‘The reigns to this company are not just going to be handed over because you’re a Rosemurgy. They’re handed over to people who are hopefully Rosemurgys,’” he says.
To expose his girls to development, Rosemurgy takes them to job sites and goes all-out on Bring Your Children To Work Day. A couple of years ago, Rosemurgy hosted a mock groundbreaking, complete with shovels, bulldozers, speeches and local politicians.
Rosemurgy enjoys spending time with his family at The Boca Raton, boating, wakesurfing, golfing and skiing in Beaver Creek, Co.
