Air travel can be stressful. Flight delays, long wait times and canceled flights can make the whole process unpleasant.
Despite this, it might surprise you to learn that on average, 81% of all U.S. flights have been reported on time since 2014 and the average wait time across all U.S. airports is 10 minutes.
Planetware, an online source for travel guides, compiled a list of airports with the shortest security wait times and the most on-time flights.
Travelers visiting airports in Hawaii and Illinois can expect longer wait times, while those visiting airports in Connecticut and Mississippi can expect little to no wait time.
Two Florida airports — Tampa International Airport and Orlando International Airport — made the top 10 list for the longest wait times, 17.1 and 14.5 minutes, respectively. Surprisingly, Miami International Airport made the top 10 list with the shortest wait times at number six.
Planetware collected data for more than 150 airports nationwide. Average wait times were calculated by gathering data each day for one week during one of the busiest times at airports, 11 a.m. to noon. They then ranked airports from the longest to shortest average wait times.
Fort Lauderdale International Airport placed 39th with an average wait time of 12.9 minutes. It also found its place in the top 10 for busiest U.S. airports with flight delays (22%).
