A Parliament filled with chimps, a disheveled bathroom overrun with raucous rats and more than 150 other pieces of art by one of the most famous (yet unidentified) street artists in the world is on display through next month at Miami’s Ice Palace Studios as part of his American debut.
“The Art of Banksy: ‘Without Limits’” premiered in the U.S. in Atlanta in September 2021. Miami is the second city on a national tour after having toured Europe, the Middle East, Australia and Asia.
Visitors are treated to a documentary into Banksy’s life and work as well as more than 20 of his works that were reproduced using his stencil technique including “Escape,” originally appearing on England’s closed Reading Prison and “Pulp Fiction” featuring likenesses of the film’s stars Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta pointing bananas in place of pistols.
You may recall the artist made international headlines in 2018 when, immediately after someone paid $1.4 million for one of his most iconic works, a shredder built into the bottom of the frame came to life and sliced the bottom half of the canvas into strips.
“Some consider Banksy a prankster and others regard him an artistic genius — no matter one’s perspective, worldwide it’s clear that everyone agrees Banksy’s popularity and influence cannot be denied,” says Martin Biallas, CEO of SEE Global Entertainment, one of the event’s presenters.
