Boca Raton is preparing to celebrate 100 years and she never looked so good.
The city recently unveiled a colorful centennial logo. It has four colors: pink symbolizes the city’s history, yellow embodies the sun, blue reflects its coastal community and green highlights its parks and other green spaces.
The new logo will be incorporated into all centennial-related events starting in January 2025.
In June 1924, 30 of the city’s residents voted to incorporate as Boca Raton; four voted nay. The following year on May 26, the city reincorporated as the Town of Boca Raton. However, they were not the first to live in Boca. According to the Boca Raton Historical Society, the earliest known inhabitants were peoples of the Glades Culture who lived in the area as long ago as 1,000 years and all the way up to the 18th century. By the early 1900s Boca Raton was a tiny agricultural community, with farmers specializing in pineapples.
To celebrate, there will be lots of events and activities that showcase Boca Raton’s history. Residents are being invited to write a personal five-line “Ode to Boca,” based on their zip code, with each line containing the number of words designated by the zip numbers. Zero is a wildcard — you can leave it blank, insert an emoji or symbol or use any number of words between one and nine. Select poems will be showcased in public art projects, collaborations with community partners and various placemaking initiatives.
