Co-founders Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy
Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are taking their love of golf high-tech.
The two formed TGL, a new, tech-infused golf league in partnership with the PGA Tour which will kick off in January 2024. The new league, which was announced in August 2022, is already drawing some big names in golf. World No. 5 Jon Rahm and world No. 8 Justin Thomas have said they will participate in the new league. It will showcase team matches fusing advanced tech and live action from a custom-built venue in primetime on Monday nights, which will complement the current PGA Tour schedule, according to a news release.
“TGL is the next evolution within professional golf, and I am committed to helping lead it into the future,” Woods said. Added McIlroy: “TGL will tap into the appeal of team golf within an exciting, fan-friendly environment, comparable to sitting courtside at an NBA game.” Six teams of three PGA players will take part in the 15 regular season Monday night matches, followed by semifinals and finals matches.
