In German it’s called Grüne Woche. Translated, it means “Green Week,” and it’s a hot spot for sustainable food lovers.
Visitors can sample their way through five continents with everything on the menu. Offerings include Swedish birch sap, strawberry roses from Estonia and purple corn juice from Peru, as well as regional specialties from Germany, such as roast potatoes with kale pesto from Lower Saxony. This is the 17th year for the event, which takes place Jan. 17-26 at Messe Berlin.
In addition to foods from five continents, the event will feature interactive exhibitions, creative workshops and information about the trends in the industry, as experts collaborate on solutions for a sustainable future.
NGOs and nonprofit organizations will provide tips and information on resource-saving techniques. Organic farmers, bakers, beekeepers and wine growers will showcase sustainable products and offer samples.
The event also hosts the Global Forum for Food and Agriculture, bringing together 2,000 politicians and experts from science, business and civil society to develop solutions for future food security. The forum’s motto this year is “Shaping a Sustainable Bioeconomy.”
