If you have ever been to The Boca Raton, you may have noticed the many large sculptures located on its more than 200 acres. The artists who provide them are represented by Sponder Gallery, which also has a small private gallery on the hotel and resort’s property. Sponder has called the resort home for about 12 years. It gives visitors a glimpse of what the larger gallery has to offer.
While The Boca Raton was undergoing a $200 million renovation, so was the gallery. In fact, during the renovation many of the outdoor sculptures and artwork were relocated and the gallery was provided with additional space in the historic part of the luxury resort hotel as part of the renovation. The newly renovated gallery is expected to open this month.
“Most of the art also has relocated since the outdoor spaces have been reimagined,” says Beverly Cuyler, Director of Sponder Gallery. “There are new areas on the grounds to explore so it’s opened up a lot of new places for there to be artwork.”
The art is selected based on the artists’ interesting techniques and approach to using materials in a new way, says Cuyler. If you don’t see anything you like there, you can check out the larger gallery, or they will come to you.
“We are a full-service gallery. Since we show a small percentage of our roster at the resort, we will do home visits and make suggestions for other pieces they may not see on the grounds,” says Cuyler.
