How many times have you come home from work and said, “Tomorrow is the day I quit my job!” In recent months, this sentiment has gone from being a fantasy to a reality for many.
Reports from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics over the past several months found the quit rate reaching record highs. Businesses hit the hardest were retail, professional and business services, transportation, warehousing and utilities.
According to Pacific Crest Group, which helps companies run day-to-day operations, there are four main reasons people quit: little to no recognition, internal company politics, lack of empowerment and employees disliking their boss.
People are using the pandemic, and the chaos it created, to reassess their lives.
For employers, it’s a whole different ball of wax — they are having to find ways to lure back or keep employees.
Pacific Crest Group suggests employers find out what motivates their workers along with what they need to be happy. Also, putting aside internal politics and aligning everyone’s goals is critical for a healthy work environment. Lastly, trust employees to be able to handle their jobs, make intelligent decisions and, most of all, let them know they are valued.
