The post-romantic English poet and novelist Letitia Elizabeth Landon once stated, “Travel is as much a passion as ambition or love.” Though she lived in a very different world (can you imagine a time without airplanes?), her message speaks to my core.
As early as I can recollect, I’ve been drawn to visiting other cities and countries. Maybe it was growing up in New York, a kaleidoscope of cultures, that first planted that seed, or simply an innate curiosity to venture beyond myself and learn about others and their cultures. Whatever the reason, traveling is something I hold dear — and I am fortunate enough to have visited so many extraordinary destinations thus far! Of course, the world is vast and teeming with wonderful places, making our February Travel Issue all the more thrilling to share with you.
First, we set sail for the destination of Croatia, where our editor Alona Abbady Martinez explored the famed Dalmatian Coast aboard Goolets’ luxury superyacht, Cristal. Her story “Croatia Is Calling” (page 66) recounts the experience so vividly, you’ll want to place this journey at the very top of your “to-do” list (I certainly have!).
For those yearning for a winter escape, Jackson Hole, Wyo., is the ideal spot. Whether you love to hit the slopes (the season ends in April, so there’s still time!), shop, enjoy fine restaurants or simply find an excuse to wear the cute winter outfits that spend most of the time in storage, our story “Elevated Adventure” (page 74) explains everything you’ll need to know for a memorable visit to this charming mountain town.
We continue with a country that sits high on my bucket list: Japan. Our story “Healing Heritage” (page 80) whisks us away to the unique Nikko region — situated two hours north of Tokyo — a mountain retreat renowned not only for its breathtaking scenery, but also for the restorative qualities it offers the body and mind.
When crafting the perfect getaway, we know that choosing the ideal hotel is paramount. And while we all have our go-to favorites, there’s something about finding one so distinctive that it becomes the vacation itself. We’ve taken the liberty of doing the legwork for you, sharing hotels you’ve most likely never heard of but definitely will want to explore in “Journey To Stay” (page 86).
My travel bucket list is constantly growing, and after reading this issue, it’s gotten even longer. I trust that this issue will leave you equally inspired to pack your bags and set out on your next adventure! On a final note, let’s not forget to embrace the love in the air this Valentine’s Day, adding a touch of romance to every journey taken.
Warm regards,
