A South Florida summer is truly a beast of its own, and when you’re at an outdoor concert you’ll want and need to stay and look cool. We spoke to Miami-based fashion stylist Sophie Faith to help you compose a perfect outfit that will beat the heat while staying chic.
Keep It Light
Faith recommends wearing fabrics that are light and floaty, particularly cottons or organzas. When considering sun exposure, lighter textiles covering your arms and legs will help protect you. It will also be easier to dodge the darting temperatures by wearing one piece instead of layers.
Accessorize Wisely
Since we’re usually wearing less clothing, you can add style at an outdoor show with accessories. The 2000s-era bohemian chic trend is back, Faith says, and with it come fringe bags and vests, arm cuffs and bold belts. Faith suggests you avoid acid wash and neon, as those trends are out this season.
Be Prepared
At a crowded concert, you’ll want to keep yourself safe. Make sure to protect and shield your eyes. Cowboy hats are having a moment, Faith says, so opt for a straw version for a relaxed look. Be sure to
choose a crossbody bag or belt bag to keep your valuables (and sunscreen!) close, though a backpack can work well, Faith says. And if you’re going to be sitting on the ground, find a stylish light blanket or a straw mat with a carry handle so you’ll have a place to sit. Lastly, make sure to protect your feet: Faith suggests a cool sneaker or high top you’re not afraid of getting dirty instead of an open-toe — you don’t want your toes stepped on or to step in something icky.
Have Fun
Ultimately, dressing for an occasion like this is “actually all about expressing your freedom and what makes you feel good and going for it,” Faith says. Half the fun is seeing what everyone else is wearing. “Do whatever — as long as you’re comfortable,” she continues. “It’s just about committing to the look for whatever look you’re gonna go for.”
