Now that we’re home so much more, adding a little glamour to the everyday can be a welcome change.
One way to do that is with lingerie. After all, relaxing at home doesn’t have to only mean sweatpants. Just as dressing up for a night out can be fun, dressing up for a night (or day) in can be as well. We spoke to Denise Silverman, owner of Boca Raton’s Drawer Full of Lingerie, about some of the best ways to add comfort and style to this new life indoors.
Fabric Matters
Whether it’s in the form of pajamas, chemises, or a robe, the kind of fabric you’re wearing can make all the difference. While some fabrics like silk are nice for special occasions, you can also don fine lingerie that’s not as meticulous to clean. Silverman recommends high-end cottons like pima, mercerized cotton and modal. Fine charmeuse — a high-end polyester — is also a welcome option when you’re seeking something silky and shiny.
Quality Is Queen
Investing in fine lingerie will save you money in the long run.
“High-end lines have higher standards,” Silverman says, referring to the construction, sewing and careful handling that goes into the production of such garments. “I believe in buying high-end stuff because quality lasts and the other doesn’t. You wash one, it falls apart after a few washings, you have the other for years, believe it or not,” she says. Top brands Silverman recommends are Hanro, P Jamas, Natori, Wacoal, Hanky Panky and Cosabella.
Comfort Over All
Ultimately, when you’re home so much, you want lingerie that can suit multiple purposes, from lounging to play and everything in between — something that moves and can live with you as you go about your life. “That’s the whole thing right now, people want to feel comfortable in their homes,” Silverman says. But it should also be something that makes you happy to wear — a color, pattern, or style that you love. So, when you choose fine, washable fabrics in well-made garments that make you feel good, you’re well on your way to a more stylish, comfortable day-to-day.
