As the season of giving and gratitude kicks off this month, it’s time to celebrate brands that include charitable initiatives in their business models, supporting their communities and the environment. So, in the midst of gift-giving, you can actually help give back, too. Here are some exciting fashion brands that are using their labels to do good.
TOMS
The company, which rose to fame for its shoes, has been noteworthy for its philanthropic endeavors since its founding in 2006. Toms gives one-third of its profits to organizations that support mental health, queer youth and gang rehabilitation, among others. Today, it has expanded its wares to include clothing and accessories (like hats and sunglasses), and portions of all sales go to those in need.
Bombas
Originally known for its socks, Bombas now also makes underwear, shirts and slippers. For every Bombas item purchased, one gets donated to people in homeless shelters, schools in need, rehabilitation centers and more. The company has donated over 100 million items to spaces like these across the U.S. since its inception in 2013.
Everlane
Direct-to-consumer brand Everlane, beloved for its classic staples, has had a Black Friday Fund since 2014, donating its profits from the sales of that day to a revolving list of charities and organizations. In the past, they’ve donated to environmental groups, advocates for social justice and those battling hunger relief, among others.
Mejuri
Founded in 2013 set out to make fine jewelry more accessible, responsible and sustainable, the brand’s mini-hoops, stackable rings and chains are especially popular. Mejuri has given hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of scholarships to organizations like United Negro College Fund, all the while making affordable luxury jewelry. They also offer a collection of recycled gold jewelry and have started using “salmon gold,” which comes from once-abandoned mines that are now wildlife habitats.
Levi Strauss & Co.
The legendary denim brand makes more than just classic jeans. Established in 1952, the Levi Strauss Foundation has donated over $378 million to organizations assisting those in need across the globe, donating over $9 million in 2023 alone. According to the foundation, this includes organizations dedicated to “reproductive justice, worker rights and well-being, immigrant rights and democracy.”
