One of our greatest actors of all time, Meryl Streep, once said, “Instant gratification is not soon enough.”
I get it. In fact, I can totally relate. It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and life is short, so it’s important to grab those moments of fun, adventure and laughter as soon as you can get them. What better time to do so than with this June/July Entertainment Issue?
For starters, we have the one-and-only Mario Cantone. In “Mad About Mario” (page 62), the comedian chats with us about his rich and diverse life in standup, movies, television, Broadway and, of course, regular appearances on the hit talk show “The View.” And although it’s hard to keep up with him, one thing is for certain: his fans can’t stop laughing and loving everything he does.
And speaking of loving everything he does, “A Modern Mensch” (page 74) spotlights one of my favorite — and hugely talented — chefs of all time: Jake Cohen. If you haven’t heard of the cookbook author, you’re in for a treat. You’ll want to get his books and follow his social media for an endless supply of delicious goodies (hide the scale, it’s well worth it).
There’s also a dark side to the entertainment business. More and more these days we are hearing of celebrities or public figures being canceled. Our piece, “The Case For Cancel Culture” (page 68) explores the origins, history and effects of this practice, taking a close look at how this defines us as a society.
We end on a refreshing note: an overview of some of the world’s most divine swimming pools. From a spectacular high-rise infinity in Asia to a watering hole overlooking Serengeti National Park in Africa, you’ll be eager to travel to each after reading “Dive In” (page 80). There’s also a lineup of the top local spots, the perfect excuse for cooling off in this hot weather.
We’re so excited you’ve included us in your summer fun!
All the best,
Linda L. Behmoiras
