Dick Lowenthal’s Big Band Featuring Lisanne Lyons Highlighting Women in The World of Jazz
Join the Dick Lowenthal Big Band and vocalist Lisanne Lyons as they highlight such outstanding composers and arrangers as Melba Liston, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Maria Schneider, Lil Hardin Armstrong and Mary Lou Williams. In addition, there will be selections made famous by vocalists Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day, Sarah Vaughan and others.

Dick Lowenthal
Professor Emeritus Richard Lowenthal recently retired after teaching and conducting Jazz for over 50 years. He founded and chaired the Jazz Program at the Manhattan School of Music and conducted the award-winning Jazz Orchestra. He also started the Jazz Program at New Jersey City University. Dick serves as vice-Chair of the Board of directors at the Arts Garage where he teaches several successful jazz courses in the Adult Education program under the title of “Jazz and Java.”
As a trumpeter he has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Nancy Wilson, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Cher, and Clark Terry. For 10 years he led the Special Unit of the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
Lisanne Lyons
Lisanne Lyons received her Bachelors, Masters, and Doctor of Music from the University of Miami Frost School of Music. As a student, she received two Down Beat awards for Best Jazz vocalist, Best Jazz Arrangement, and one for directing Best Small Jazz Vocal Group. She is currently a Professor at FIU and Director of the Jazz vocal Program, and her vocal groups and students have won national and international performance awards. Some of the groups Dr, Lyons has performed with include the Orchestras of woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, and the Palm Beach Pops. She has performed with Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy, Jon Hendricks, Bucky Pizzarelli, Gary Burton and Brian Lynch.
