62-Year-Old Marine Veteran George Hood Will Attempt Most Push-Ups Ever in One Hour
62-Year-Old Marine Veteran George Hood, a resident of Naperville, Illinois and already holds 12 world records, is coming to West Boca Raton later this month to attempt to do the most pushups every completed in one hour. The current world record is 2,919. His goal? 2,920 or more!
Just last year (February 2020), Hood, who served as an officer with the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, and is an ex Drug Enforcement Administration agent, set the world record for “longest time in an abdominal plank position (male)” with a time of 8 hours, 15 minutes, 15 seconds, according to the Guinness World Records. That was Hood’s 12th world record! He holds records for longest riding time on a stationary bicycle (more than 111 hours), among others.
Hood has been exercising since completing the Marine Corps officer training program in his 20s, but admits he is in the best shape of his life now in his early 60s. He earned his first Guinness World Record in 2011 with a plan that lasted one hour, 20 minutes and 25 seconds. Since then, he has adopted a more extreme training regime to build stamina and mental and physical strength. For his most recent world record in February 2020, he instituted mindset coaching; 4 to 5 hours of planning and 2,000 crunches every day; and eating for energy.
Wade Waddick, owner of Evolution Fitness, is hosting George and his effort to showcase the amazing things veterans can accomplish after their tours. Money raised at the event will go towards the effort; any additional money will be donated to the Wounded Veterans Relief Fund. The organization’s president Michael Durkee will be present. “Any opportunity to spotlight veterans who have gone to do great things is a great thing,” Waddick said. “As we always say, once a marine, always a marine.”
