Who can resist the opportunity to enjoy fabulous food while watching the world go by at a few feet above the hustle and bustle of Delray Beach’s Atlantic Avenue?
Certainly not I – especially when I know the restaurant is L’Acqua.
There, you’ll find an ambiance that’s upscale- buzzy; a generous bar with indoor-outdoor seating; a long, spectacular wine list; and a blueberry martini that thrills even the most jaded cocktail lover. The menu is a treasure trove of sophisticated versions of Italian favorites, executed flawlessly.
My guest, who orders veal parmigiana everywhere, said L’Acqua’s version is among the lightest and tastiest he’s ever had. The Branzino, sea salt crusted and deboned, is a rich treat for “seafoodies” – who will also enjoy the Octopus Carpaccio appetizer, accompanied by a refreshing mixed-green salad with orange dressing and red onion.
When it comes to pasta, don’t pass up the Gnocchi Siracusa, with garlic, anchovies, cherry tomatoes, tomato sauce, basil, parsley, parmesan and provolone. The Pappardelle Terra e Mare – which has a wealth of shrimp, calamari, chicken, sausage and veggies – is perfect either as a side for the table or as an entrée.
But don’t just stick to the regular menu. Be sure to ask your waiter for the specials, which are extra special at L’Acqua. Hopefully, you’ll get the chance to try the flavorful Fettucine, with jumbo lump crab meat, tomato sauce, garlic, cherry tomatoes and asparagus.
The Maine Lobster with Linguine Fra Diavolo also is exceptional, along with the rich Ravioli Tartufo, with porcini mushrooms, fresh cream, champagne and black truffles. Cross your fingers that the Black Squid Ink Spaghetti is available. It has much more variety than most versions, as it brims with shrimp, calamari, scallops and clams in a white wine sauce.
For dessert, the Pineapple Flambe and Ricotta Mascarpone Cheesecake were favorites. However, I’ll be back to try that luscious-looking Tiramisu.
Save me a seat overlooking the street for another exemplary dining experience at L’Acqua. O
