As September draws to a close, Jewish families around the world begin preparing for the High Holidays, the most significant observance in Judaism. This includes Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which takes place Oct. 2-4.
While these holidays serve as a time for reflection and remembrance of pivotal moments in Jewish history, they also largely revolve around food. This year, why not partake in some culinary fun by cooking a Rosh Hashanah staple?
On Sunday, Sept. 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Community Classroom Project, a Delray Beach-based nonprofit dedicated to reducing stress for students, parents, educators and communities, is hosting its first annual Kugel Cook-Off as part of its Community Classroom Kitchen project. The initiative promotes mental and physical health through the art of cooking and communal dining.
Kugel lovers — whether you prefer savory or sweet — are invited to join in a friendly competition celebrating this cherished side dish, which has held a special place on Jewish tables since biblical times.
What makes this event unique is that participants get to be their own judges. Sample a variety of kugels, and the entry with the most votes will be crowned as the winner. In addition to the cook-off, attendees can enjoy brunch sides, bubbly mimosas for adults, and fun entertainment for the kids.
“It’s all for a fantastic cause — supporting the incredible programs of the Community Classroom Project. So bring your appetite, your family and your best taste-testing skills because this is one event you don’t want to miss! The winners take home fabulous prizes, and everyone leaves with a smile,” states a press release.
