Save this Sunday for flowers and brunch and begin the Mother's Day festivities on Saturday by treating Mom to a fun, creative experience she'll never forget.
We’re talking about a mural drawing class led by Miami graffiti artist, Adam Vargas, better known as Atomik. A local graffiti legend who’s been showcasing his artwork throughout the streets of Miami for nearly 20 years, Atomik’s work can be seen, not only throughout the Magic City but all over the world. His homage to Obie, the iconic Orange Bowl mascot, has become such a beloved figure that it’s graced hundreds of surfaces: from exterior walls to gallery walls, from freight trains to the cover of the book on local graffiti culture “Miami Graffiti.”
Taking place in Wynwood, Miami’s creative heartbeat, the graffiti artist will lead a mural drawing from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. outside of WYN 317 gallery, sharing his creative process and guiding attendants to create their unique version of his iconic spray-calligraphy and grinning orange drawing to take home. They’ll also get to practice skills learned by contributing to a graffiti mural in collaboration with the artist.
“Teaching people how to draw and paint is fun. I enjoy educating art enthusiasts and inspiring artists, especially the youth. I enjoy sharing my creative process in order for people to have a better understanding and bigger connection whenever they come across the orange in person," Atomik says.
Afterward, participants are welcome to tour WYN 317, a gallery dedicated to showcasing Miami’s diverse urban landscape which ranges from the area’s graffiti culture to pop art influences. Gallery co-owner Danielle Pino is excited about tomorrow’s event.
"Exploring a new way of looking at a familiar object is energizing! So, participants can expect to have some fun!,” she says.
Light bites, water and beer from Lincoln’s Beard Brewery will be served.
