What doesn’t Hannah Hart do? Boasting more than 5 million followers, she’s an entertainer, a food enthusiast, a LGBTQ advocate and the two-time New York Times best-selling author of “Buffering: Unshared Tales of a Life Fully Loaded” and “My Drunk Kitchen: A Guide to Eating, Drinking, and Going with Your Gut.” She’s best known as the creator of the popular My Drunk Kitchen series on YouTube.
Now, Hart – affectionately dubbed Harto by friends, family and fans – returns with a third book celebrating all the holidays big and small throughout the year. “My Drunk Kitchen Holidays! How to Savor and Celebrate the Year” hits bookshelves Oct. 22.
And the praise so far has been pretty tasty.
New York Times best-selling author Neil Gaiman said: “I defy anyone to read this surprisingly useful book and not come away from it madly in love with Harto, hoping against hope that one day she will turn up, with alcohol and honesty and a heaped pile of humor, in your kitchen too.”
Hank Green, New York Times best-selling author, agreed: “Maybe cooking isn’t about creating culinary perfect flavor art—maybe cooking is just part of living a life you enjoy and that makes the world suck less. I’m not saying Hannah’s food isn’t good, but her ideas are butter...ahem...better.”
Featuring nearly 50 recipes arranged into 12 months of themes, the book is a humorous, entertaining guide that’s equal parts festive and inspirational. The marquee holidays like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Independence Day are included, of course, and Hart shares ideas on how to celebrate cultural events like Pride Month and lesser known occasions like Middle Child’s Day and Mental Health Day. The book culminates with the fall and winter holidays, showcasing recipes for Halloween, Thanksgiving and a celebration of December holidays that’s inclusive and a whole lot of fun.
Expect recipes like Acceptance Avocado, a zesty take on avocado toast for Single Awareness Day; Pickled Things, a guide on how to pickle and make brine for Pack Your Lunch Day; Watermelon Marg, a delicious drink to enjoy while getting ready for National Lipstick Day; and Candied Apples, an ode to colors and seasonal produce during Fall for Color Day.
