From March 28 to April 9, theater enthusiasts will enjoy “To Kill A Mockingbird” as part of the Bank of America Broadway in Fort Lauderdale series presented by Nicklaus Children’s Hospital at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
A story about racial injustice and childhood innocence, the Academy Award winner Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning work has been considered by The New York Times as “the most successful American play in Broadway history,” was given five stars by The Rolling Stones and called “an emotional shattering landmark production of American classic,” The New York Magazine calls it “a real phenomenon. Majestic and incandescent, it’s filled with breath and nuance and soul.”
“To Kill A Mockingbird holds the record as the highest-grossing American play in Broadway history. It began performances on November 1, 2018, at the Shubert Theater and played to sold-out houses until the Broadway shutdown in March 2020,” states a press release. “On February 26, 2020, To Kill A Mockingbird became the first-ever Broadway play to perform at New York’s Madison Square Garden, in front of approximately 18,000 New York City public school students, also marking the largest attendance at a single performance of a play even in world theater.”
The cast includes Emmy Award-winner actor Richard Thomas, who has performed on stage and screen for over 60 years. He plays the role of Atticus Finch, a small-town lawyer and one of the most venerated characters in American literature, according to the press release.
