Fourteen-year-old Mayah Chouloute from Boca Raton has been hitting her marks in swimming pools across South Florida since she was 6. Now a standout and confident swimmer, she represents her Haitian heritage at the Paris Olympic Games, which began on July 26.
Mayah, who participated in the games’ fastest pool event — the 50-meter freestyle sprint — on Saturday, Aug. 3, is the youngest of seven athletes on the Haitian Olympic squad yet a top-ranked swimmer in her age group. She competed in heat No. 3 (heats are organized by participants’ entry times, with the last heat featuring the fastest swimmers) and secured the second-highest rank.
In an interview with WPTV News in July, Mayah expressed her excitement, saying, “I feel on top of the world. Going to the Olympics was a really big goal of mine. Being able to accomplish it at 14 is really mind-blowing.”
The Boca Raton Middle School 8th grader and incoming Florida Atlantic University High School student shares her Olympic journey on her Instagram page. Follow her for updates and behind-the-scenes moments.
Congratulations, Mayah!
