‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’ Heads To Fort Lauderdale’s Broward Center For The Performing Arts
Bank of America Broadway in Fort Lauderdale Series presents the first North American tour of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts from March 5 to 17.
Recipient of 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, as well as two Drama League Awards, five Drama Desk Awards and 10 Outer Critics Circle Awards, “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” brings Baz Luhrmann’s iconic 2001 film, starring Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor, Jim Broadbent, Richard Roxburgh, Caroline O’Connor and Christina Aguilera, to life on stage.
Much like the film, which received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, the show boasts a similar soundtrack alongside a recently incorporated mash-up extravaganza featuring songs from Jacques Offenbach to Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Adele, Paul McCartney and more.
“Moulin Rouge! The Musical” follows English poet, Christian (Derek Klena) as he falls in love with Moulin Rouge star, cabaret actress and courtesan, Satin (Courtney Reed). When the Moulin Rouge, a renowned Parisian cabaret and dance hall from the late 1880s, faces bankruptcy, club owner Boy George (Harold Zidler), desperately attempts to save his beloved show by orchestrating a plan involving Satin and the wealthy Duke of Monroth (David Harris), thus creating a significant obstacle between the beautiful star and her lover.
Produced by Carmen Pavlovic, Gerry Ryan and Bill Damaschke, “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” promises to be a celebration of truth, beauty, freedom and love.
