First on Comedy Central and then on Netflix, the TV series "Mystery Science Theater 3000" has drawn a cult following since first debuting in 1988.
The premise? "Forced by evil scientists to watch bad 'B' movies until he breaks, a host and a bunch of captive robots comment on the films to keep sane."
You'll be able to join in the hilarity when the Mystery Science Theater 3000 Live 30th Anniversary Tour stops at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale on Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. The show will feature Joel Hodgson, the show's original host and creator; Jonah Heston, host of the recent Netflix revival; and puppet robots Crow and Tom Servo.
Of the upcoming tour, Hodgson says: "The craziest and most exciting thing for me is that I am putting on my old jumpsuit and will be riffing live, shoulder to shoulder with Jonah, Crow and Tom Servo for two incredibly strange feature films. I'm going to have to go into training to get caught up to the skill level of Jonah and this new cast."
Notes the venue's website: "The show will include all the things expected from an MST3K experience, including a cheesy B-movie, hilarious riffing, wisecracking robots, silly sketches, movies never before seen on the MST3K series, and for the first time ever, Joel and Jonah riffing together side-by-side."
The tour features two different movies. Fort Lauderdale attendees will see "The Brain," "a Canadian science fiction suburban nightmare," according to the venue's website. O
