Anyone who remembers “American Bandstand” or “The Twist” will want to join in the fun at the Wick Theatre in Boca Raton as “Sh-Boom! Life Could Be a Dream” takes center stage.
The play, the brainchild of Roger Bean, will be presented through April 3 and will feature more than 25 songs designed to evoke nostalgic feelings.
“‘Sh-boom’ is the jukebox musical we need right now!” says Marilynn A. Wick, managing executive producer. “Expect pristine harmonies, peppy dance steps and of course our signature period-perfect costumes and sets that will transport you directly to this beloved era. We dare you not to grin and sing along to classic hits including ‘Unchained Melody,’ ‘Runaround Sue,’ ‘Duke of Earl,’ and more!”
The plot centers on an amateur doo-wop group hoping a win at the Big Whopper Radio contest will catapult them to fame. But suggestions from former classmate on how to step up their game complicates matters.
Bean is the creative behind “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” which ran for more than 1,200 performances Off-Broadway and led to three sequels including “Wonderettes: Caps & Gowns,” “Winter Wonderettes,” “Wonderettes: Dream On,” as well as the new “Wonderettes: Glee Club Edition.”
