For those daydreaming about pursuing a thespian career, the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts offers summer education programs for children and young adults ages 9 to 22. Theater lovers can take their performing skills to the next level with ArtsCamp, The Broadway Artists Intensive Junior and The Broadway Artists Intensive (TBAI).
ArtsCamp, which runs from June 5-23, teaches what it takes to bring a show from an idea to reality. No audition is required to join and the classes – held Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – focus on dramatic composition and performance for students ages 9-11.
“Under the guidance of seven professional teaching artists, campers will explore art, acting, dance, technical theater, and vocal music, culminating in an ensemble piece produced by the young artists and performed for family and friends,” says a press release. “For campers with a keen interest in the performing arts, this curriculum allows them to expand their experience and learn new technical and performance skills.”
TBAI Junior, held June 26-30, allows students ages 9-13 to study a variety of areas in the performing arts with classes in ballet, jazz, tap, vocal technique, acting and improvisation. Created by Broadway professionals Jason and Jackie Bayne Gillman, TBAI will be taught by an all-Broadway faculty, including special guests Brenda Jean Hamilton and Tim Fitz-Gerald.
Lastly, The Broadway Artists Intensive, a musical theater training program for students ages 14-22 focuses on the three major areas of the performing arts: acting, voice and dance. It runs from July 10-29 and auditions are required for entry.
