The James Beard Foundation, the organization behind The James Beard Awards — the most prestigious culinary recognition in the country — is bringing its acclaimed Taste America series to Miami with a special pop-up dinner at Maty’s, the Peruvian restaurant helmed by Chef Valerie Chang, recent winner of the James Beard Award for Best Chef: South.
Scheduled for Oct. 17, the exclusive event with seatings at 6:15 p.m. and 8:45 p.m., brings together chefs and food lovers to celebrate local restaurants. Maty’s, named one of Bon Appetit’s “24 Best New Restaurants” in 2023 (just six months after opening) and featured on The New York Times’ “Restaurant List,” will present a multi-course menu with wine pairings and creative cocktails, all crafted by Chang and her team in collaboration with Chef Tam Pham of another local eatery, Tâm Tâm.
Recognized as one of the industry’s top talents, Chang is part of the Foundation’s prestigious annual TasteTwenty class — a select group of celebrated chefs showcasing their expertise at events throughout the year.
“We are excited to spotlight Valerie’s work in driving the industry forward through her dedication to excellence and commitment to community. Valerie’s inclusion in the 2024-2025 TasteTwenty class of chefs is well-deserved, and we are excited to share her vision and talent with guests of this special event,” says Siobhan Flaherty Haber, vice president of events at the James Beard Foundation.
