Shawn Mendes’ career took off faster than a meteorite.
The baby-faced Canadian singer-songwriter started posting online his renditions of songs in 2013. By 2017, he was selling out Madison Square Garden in four minutes and already had two hit albums – and the endorsement of one of the most respected and revered singers in the biz, Elton John.
“For someone so young, he is remarkably accomplished and professional,” John told Variety. “He has impressed me with his ability to grow as an artist on record, and especially live. A wonderful future awaits him.”
We bet Mendes’ recent Calvin Klein underwear ads haven’t hurt the 20-year-old’s career prospects, either. But let’s get back to his music – and his current worldwide tour – which stops at the AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami on July 28 at 7:30 p.m. Fans should expect a slew of the singer’s hits, including “Treat You Better” and “Stitches.”
Mendes is ready to take on the life of a star. But, despite his hectic lifestyle, he keeps to his three daily rules: a gym workout, two vocal lessons and always saying yes to selfies with fans.
He told Variety: “I want to push myself to my limit of what I can handle and play as many shows and write as many songs as I can and fly around the world 10,000 times in a year, pushing myself to the point where it seems crazy.” O
