From April 29-30, aircraft aficionados will contemplate one of the most anticipated displays of military air power. Extending from 18th Street to Sunrise Boulevard on Fort Lauderdale Beach, this two-day event is about sitting back, relaxing and enjoying a world-class aviation show at a favorite destination.
Beginning at 11:45 a.m., spectators can enjoy the show from four different spots at varying prices: the Drop Zone, a private beach area that includes food and drinks to purchase on the beach, high-quality sound and music and professional narration of the show; Sand Boxes, an 10’ x 12’ area where attendees can reserve their preferred location and bring their own chairs; the Flight Line Club, a VIP area on the beach featuring tents for dining and, for the ultimate experience, the Pelican Grand Penthouse on the rooftop of the Pelican Grand Hotel to watch the jets roar by from the rooftop balcony directly on the oceanfront.
The show features only the best of the best: the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, known for precision formations and high energy maneuvers on F-18 Super Hornets, the F-22 Raptor (the fastest and most maneuverable fighter jet in the world) and the Red Bull Helicopter, certified to do jaw-dropping tricks like loops, vertical climbs and nose dives are anticipated to dazzle the crowd. Others include the Red Bull Air Force made up of the most accomplished and experienced aviation experts, the U.S. Special Operations Command Parachute Team, as well as solo performers like Kirby Chambliss (a five-time winner of the U.S. National Aerobatic Championship) and Michael Goulian (one of the top aerobatic pilots in the world). More performances will be announced, so be sure to check the website.
What’s more, the U.S. Coast Guard has established a safe zone where watercraft are allowed to anchor to appreciate the show from a boat.
