History Fort Lauderdale is dedicated to bringing history to life.
And what better way to do so than to showcase the colorful traditions of Día de los Muertos, Mexico’s Day of the Dead Celebration?
Join the festivities Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the venue hosts Florida Day of the Dead Celebration’s Shadow Puppet Theater, where roving giant puppets will perform. There will also be tours of the venue’s “Ofrendas” exhibition, showcasing fine art and community memorial altars (ofrendas) covered in photographs, flowers and favorite items of the dearly departed.
The celebration continues Nov. 2 from 4-9 p.m. with pop-up ofrendas; luminarias on the New River; and strolling performers, including traditional Aztec dancers Tloke Nahuake. This will be the last chance to tour the “Ofrendas” exhibition, part of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, which ends that evening.
History Fort Lauderdale, which is “dedicated to bringing stories of the community to life through engaging educational experiences, innovative cultural exhibits, research and preservation of artifacts,” according to a press release, will observe social distancing; masks and digital temperature checks will be required; and hand sanitizer will be available.
