Nonprofit Organization
For more than four years, Boca Raton resident Danita R. DeHaney has been leading philanthropy locally as president and CEO of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties.
As a strategic partner, DeHaney and her staff amplify the giving of about 600 generous families and individuals through their charitable expertise, connections to trusted nonprofit partners and back-office administrative work.
“Over 5,000 nonprofit organizations are in Palm Beach County alone,” says DeHaney. “It can be overwhelming to donors trying to navigate the needs, protect their investments and account for piles of paperwork. That’s where we step in; we help donors make a difference on the causes closest to their hearts — here and anywhere — by giving to and through Community Foundation.”
The Community Foundation has been distributing grants and scholarships into the community for over 50 years, supporting a wide range of causes like hunger, literacy, mental health and homelessness.
DeHaney says that during her tenure, one cause continues to rise to the top of donors’ concerns: education. The issue is close to her own heart given her 20-plus years of service at state universities in Florida and Maryland.
“From my experience, it is imperative that philanthropy play a role in helping kids start ahead and stay ahead,” she says.
“Whether that means investing in youth-centered organizations to turn around our county’s abysmal third-grade literacy rate or opening doors to economic mobility through college scholarships, Community Foundation and our donors have the power to fortify our area’s promise.”
