Tyla Conn and Fern L. Conn
Feel Warm And Welcomed Both In The Studio And Online
Teaching yoga is a no-brainer for Fern L. Conn, co-owner and founder of Dancing Lion Studio in Delray Beach.
“It’s my dharma,” she says. “It’s my purpose. I wake up every day with a smile on my face.”
In the fitness and wellness field for more than 30 years, Conn started as a dancer and an ACE certified personal trainer and has taught everything from step to tap to body sculpting.
“I came to yoga through that,” says the Boca Raton resident, who is now E-RYT500, a top-level yoga teacher certification.
Conn, who is also a motivational speaker, teaches all levels of vinyasa, yin, restorative, meditation, yoga nidra, kids yoga and more at her studio, which opened in July 2019. It also serves as a school where her team facilitates teacher training courses and is a Yoga Alliance Continuing Education provider.
“Yoga is a healing art,” she says. “I hope what I do inspires others.”
You have many options when choosing a yoga studio, and Conn knows that. She says what makes her studio – which is housed in a beautiful space in a historic building – stand out is that you’ll feel like you’re home.
“We created a space for all bodies and levels,” she says. “It’s a warm and welcoming environment. It’s a place of non-judgment. We’re not the type of studio where you’ll feel intimidated.”
Conn also seeks to build community by planning special charity events and other activities.
“Giving back is the essence of this community,” she says.
She co-owns the boutique studio with her daughter, Tyla, who is also a yoga teacher and trainer. This gives the studio a multigenerational atmosphere, she says.
“Our programming appeals to everyone. We keep the essence and philosophy of yoga in our practice. We don’t water it down. We’re the kind of environment that embodies traditions. We offer an energetic and emotional experience, not just a physical practice. This can be felt whether you are in the studio or joining us virtually. ”
The studio reopened in May after lockdown with new protocols in place. That includes limited class sizes, social distancing in the studio and enhanced cleaning procedures.
“People need connection, and we’re a safe space,” says Conn.
But, keeping all needs in mind, you can also enjoy classes from home via Zoom. Join live, or view a taped class later. The studio’s online platform is also growing.
