Pam Rauch
Electric Company
Pam Rauch has found a seat at the table in a male-dominated industry, becoming the first female vice president of external affairs and economic development at Florida Power & Light Company, a position she’s held since 2008. The company’s culture of embracing diversity and innovative thinking allowed Pam to grow into a new role after joining FPL in 1999 as a lawyer.
My favorite part of my job is that I can connect our company with our community,” says Rauch. “Being a community partner is part of our DNA at FPL. We get to be at the tip of the iceberg, working together with different organizations to serve our communities and think of new ways to help those in need.”
Rauch’s role at the company is three-fold. Her external affairs team is embedded in the community, being the first point of contact for elected officials and business leaders. During storms, Rauch’s team works hand in hand with emergency operations centers and is the first line of communication between them and FPL’s command center.
Next, she oversees employee community engagement and corporate philanthropy. “These programs really showcase the heart of our company,” she says. “Our employees and families live and work in these communities and we’re all invested in them.”
Lastly, she handles economic development, working with local and state organizations to recruit companies and jobs to Florida. They’ve helped more than 230 companies locate or expand in the state, creating nearly 110,000 jobs in the last 10 years.
Rauch is grateful for the opportunities she’s been given at FPL over the years. “I’ve not only benefited but have been part of the effort our company has made to embrace and promote diversity.” That innovative culture, inclusive spirit and focus on continuous improvement are what makes FPL one of the leading energy companies in the world and a testament to how it helps employees grow.
As America’s largest electric utility, FPL serves more customers and sells more power than any other utility company. It provides clean, affordable and reliable electricity to approximately 5.8 million accounts, or more than 12 million people.
