Real estate investor Jay Eisenberg and his wife Lori have always involved themselves in community and philanthropic endeavors. But when they toured JARC Florida, their experience pulled at their heartstrings.
“We knew that JARC was where we wanted to be involved,” says Jay. “You can feel and see the love at JARC; from the way the staff interacts with the clients to the clients’ smiling faces.”
The organization, which provides residential, vocational, life skills and enrichment programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, is now an integral part of the Eisenbergs’ lives. Jay now sits on the organization’s board of directors and Lori is involved in the JARC Pal program, where she spends one-on-one time with a client.
“I credit Lori for our involvement with JARC,” says Jay. “I am thankful to have her by my side all the time. I am so appreciative of what we have in our lives and very appreciative of what we can do to help others.”
During their first meeting with JARC, the Eisenbergs discovered a strong need for the families of JARC clients to have some time for rest outside of caring for their loved ones. The result: The Lori & Jay Eisenberg Respite Program, which affords the opportunity to pay a JARC staff member to stay with the client while their family members or caregivers have a day or night out on their own.
“It is an honor to have established this fund and this program to help bring a much-needed break for families,” he says.
Jay values his involvement in other organizations like MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he sits on the Board of Visitors, and JELF (Jewish Education Loan Foundation), as well as having served as synagogue president. But the opportunity to help his local community is especially important.
“Other than the love I have for my family,” he says, “what I enjoy most is that I am blessed to make a difference in the lives of others. The important work JARC does changes lives and lasts a lifetime.”
