Meredith Frank Mendez and Robert Downey
Intellectual Property Attorneys
Businesses and entrepreneurs in all industries — restaurants, retail, manufacturing, fashion, software, hotels, cruise lines, universities, franchises, scientists, food producers, musicians, social media influencers, and everyone in between — all need assistance from qualified intellectual property (IP) attorneys to protect their inventions, brands and creative works.
That’s where Malloy & Malloy comes in, an IP firm with deep roots in Boca Raton, and offices in Miami and Jacksonville. They continue to expand in Boca at pace with the growing business community. Founded in 1959, all the partners at Florida’s oldest IP firm are board certified experts in IP.
“IP protection is not just for large companies with large budgets. Many clients are entrepreneurs, start-ups and small to medium-sized businesses,” says partner Meredith Frank Mendez. “We are seeing greater demand for IP attorneys through North Broward and the Palm Beaches.” The firm’s attorneys secure trademark and patent protection in the U.S. and foreign countries, manage U.S. and global IP portfolios, and prepare agreements such as IP licenses, assignments and work-for-hire agreements. “We are constantly handling new technologies that raise novel IP issues, including ‘blockchain and the metaverse,’” Mendez says.
Mendez works closely with Robert Downey, a registered patent attorney located in Boca Raton since 1993. Downey merged his practice with Malloy & Malloy several years ago. Together they oversee two associates and coordinate with the firm’s other offices to offer “full-service IP,” including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret infringement and name-image-likeness cases in Federal courts and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Downey, who has 33 years of IP experience, especially enjoys working with independent inventors and small businesses. “I enjoy learning all aspects of a client’s business — as well as their competition — and obtaining the broadest and strongest protection,” Downey says. “One thing that separates Malloy & Malloy is that we’re not just dabbling in IP, we serve clients’ needs exclusively in IP.”
Mendez adds, “Our firm develops the best strategy to obtain enforceable IP protection and help avoid future problems.”
