The proof is in the places – six Therapies 4 Kids centers, to be exact, with a seventh to come later this year in Wellington and an eighth and a ninth in Naples and Orlando to follow.
Therapies 4 Kids is the leader in Pediatric Intensive Therapy programs for both children and adults, and it specifically caters to families with special needs children.
“We’re a multidisciplinary clinic that offers a variety of services, including occupational, speech, massage and physical therapy; Applied Behavioral Analysis; psychology; psychiatry; and Pediasuit [an internationally recognized therapy designed by the company that incorporates longer treatments more frequently each week],” explains John McCoy, assistant director of rehabilitation, whose mother, Eileen de Oliviera, owns Therapies 4 Kids.
Unfortunately, most clinics in the United States only offer 30-minute treatments three times a week, at most, McCoy points out.
“In our personal experience, this is not enough to see a significant improvement in the timespans expected,” he says. “With longer and more frequent treatments, we further increase the chances possible to achieve our client’s/parent’s goals and at a quicker rate.”
This theory hits close to home for the family. Therapies 4 Kids was created in 2005 in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea after McCoy’s younger brother Lucas (one of three triplets) was born prematurely with cerebral palsy and weighed just 2 pounds. (Sister Luiza passed away at 20 days old, and brother Samuel was born healthy.)
“At 18 months, Lucas couldn’t even lift his head,” McCoy says. “Doctors said that he’d basically be a vegetable the rest of his life.”
The clinic where Lucas was receiving therapy – and improving at a rapid rate – suddenly closed, and his family was asked by the building owner to purchase the equipment and reopen.
“So, we did just that, and now Lucas is 15 years old and thriving,” McCoy says. “In 14 years, we have witnessed numerous clients walk for the first time and speak for the first time, despite being told this was never achievable. We pride ourselves on building rapport between the therapist and children as well as rapport between these children and their peers.”
Therapies 4 Kids welcomes anyone and everyone – of all ages and diagnoses – to join its growing family.
“We constantly add services and are always researching for state-of-the-art therapies and programs to offer,” McCoy says. O
