Your parents had bad teeth and so do you. So, your kids are destined for poor oral health too, right? Wrong, according to Shana Capra, D.D.S., a board-certified pediatric dentist and owner of The Kids Dental Practice in Delray Beach. “You don’t inherit bad teeth,” she says. “You inherit poor habits.”
She says that many dental problems begin in childhood. “My goal is to change that. I want to improve kids’ lives by educating them. I focus mostly on prevention.” She advocates seeing children by age one. “It really makes a difference.”
The modern, state-of-the-art facility does it all. They offer all dental services for children including the latest treatments such as SMART dentistry, laser, laughing gas and hospital dentistry when needed. Connecting with patients is crucial for Dr. Capra. “Gaining my patients’ trust is important to me. I’m amazed how well children cooperate with treatment once they feel safe and know that we care about them. After establishing that relationship, they tend to be more proactive in their oral health. We strive for a positive experience at every visit. That’s what it’s all about.”
When you come for a visit, you’ll know the office was designed with love. “My office is a dream come true,” says Dr. Capra. “It’s a thought-out dental practice from beginning to end. Everyone who walks in senses that. My goal is to create an environment that is welcoming and refreshing.” You’ll find a unique baby lounge resembling a small nursery where they see their younger patients. A parent and child can sit in a large recliner and moms can even breastfeed there.
A Florida native, Dr. Capra is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She specialized in pediatric dentistry at Nova Southeastern University, where she served as chief resident. She is also a dental consultant advocating for children’s access to oral health care. “I treat parents ‘parent to parent,’” says Dr. Capra, who is a mother of five. “I treat my patients as if they were my own children and know the importance of being available for parents to get in contact with me. I give them my cell phone number. I’m accessible for questions and concerns. The personalized care that we provide is what attracts families to our practice.”
