Experts suggest that 80% of Americans will experience back pain at some point in their lives. Whether from an injury or simply the result of aging, it can prove painful and debilitating, says Evan M. Packer, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.A.A.N.S., founding partner at the Brain and Spine Center South Florida in Delray Beach.
Although he diagnoses and treats a wide range of neurosurgical and brain disorders, Dr. Packer, who has been practicing in Boca Raton since 2005, focuses primarily on the diagnosis and treatment of spinal disorders, including: spinal stenosis; disc bulges and herniations; neck and back pain; spinal compression fractures and sciatica.
His training as a neurosurgeon provides Dr. Packer with requisite microsurgery skills in treating the most complex conditions of the spine. “We use the latest minimally invasive techniques in spine surgery,” he says. “As a subspecialist focused on treating nervous system conditions, I am better able to determine which treatment is best for each patient.”
Regardless of whether a patient requires surgery, Dr. Packer strives to find the least invasive and most effective treatments. His practice offers pain management, along with a full complement of nonsurgical solutions for pain. He prefers to open a dialogue with patients to determine what will work best for them.
“Many patients we see can be managed without surgery, and we strive to help them to understand their treatment options to make an educated decision,” he says.
Dr. Packer is the Medical Director of Neurosurgery at the Marcus Neuroscience Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Vice Chief of Surgery at Boca Raton Regional Hospital and has held numerous other leadership positions there. He additionally treats trauma patients at Delray Medical Center.
In addition to an office location at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Dr. Packer has locations in Delray Beach and Palm Beach Gardens and has privileges at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Delray Medical Center, Delray Beach Surgery Center and Boca Raton Regional Hospital.
Dr. Packer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and affiliate assistant professor at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University.
