It used to be the older you got, the less active you became. But that no longer is the case. Many adults 65 and older are physically active playing tennis, pickleball, golf and even running. But as the body ages, physical injuries may become more prevalent.
Ehsan Esmaeili, M.D., and his team at South Florida Hand and Orthopaedic Center in Boca Raton are here to help. A board-certified orthopedic hand and upper extremity surgeon, Dr. Esmaeili has been serving patients at the center for a decade.
“Many of our patients are in their 80s. Today, the older population is more active than the younger population, which makes our jobs challenging. We aim to get them back on the courts or golf course,” says Dr. Esmaeili.
The practice focuses on minimally invasive surgery using state-of-the-art technology that involves smaller incisions and faster recovery.
Many of the injuries he sees involve wrist fractures, finger fractures, carpel tunnel, trigger finger, tendonitis and nerve-related conditions. Dr. Esmaeili completed a prestigious Hand and Microvascular Surgery fellowship at the University of Connecticut, where he was mentored by renowned hand and wrist surgeon Dr. H. Kirk Watson. He also obtained certification in microsurgery from Columbia University in New York.
Dr. Esmeili is happy to welcome two more doctors to the team. Kevin Palmer, D.P.M., is board certified in foot and reconstructive ankle surgery, while Neil Ghany, M.D., is a board certified orthopedic hand and upper extremity surgeon who brings more than 20 years of experience to the team.
Dr. Esmaeili is affiliated with Boca Raton Regional Hospital, West Boca Medical Center, Boca Raton Outpatient Surgery and Laser Center and Delray Beach Surgical Suites.
In addition to surgery, the center offers state-of-the-art digital X-ray, open MRI , fluoroscopy, ultrasound, as well as occupational therapy. This allows the practice to see patients from beginning to end, all under one roof.
“We treat our patients like we would our family,” says Dr. Esmaeili.
