New technology in the field of cardiac electrophysiology has provided Drs. Luis F. Mora and Yoel R. Vivas with more effective ways to improve patients’ symptoms and their quality of life.
At The Arrhythmia Center of South Florida in Delray Beach, founded by Yoel R. Vivas, M.D., F.H.R.S., the dedicated group of board-certified electrophysiologists implements procedures that are as innovative as they are effective.
“The newest breakthrough procedure is the pulsed field ablation for atrial fibrillation (FARAPULSETM PFA System),” explains Dr. Vivas. “We were the first in Palm Beach County to perform the procedure (starting in April 2024) and the second in South Florida — and have the most experience.”
This new type of technology, which replaces radiofrequency ablation, uses pulses of electricity that eliminates atrial fibrillation. It’s safer, with less collateral damage, faster and more efficient, he points out.
“We were also the first group in South Florida to perform a dual-chamber leadless pacemaker procedure,” Dr. Vivas adds. “We used to use long cables for pacemakers. Now, we do everything through the groin, so there’s no scar. The pacemaker is attached to the heart; one in the upper chamber and one in the lower chamber.”
What sets Dr. Vivas apart from the others is that he’s one of the few doctors in Florida to use artificial intelligence to guide atrial fibrillation. The AI algorithm is used in patients with more severe and advanced forms of AFib.
In addition, Watchman and Amulet Devices are utilized as a left-atrial appendage closure device that replaces blood thinners in patients with atrial fibrillation.
Patients appreciate the practice’s comprehensive personal care, an important aspect of the team’s more than 15 highly specialized nurses, medical assistants and doctors at The Arrhythmia Center of South Florida.
Both Dr. Vivas and Dr. Mora are passionate about their patients’ well-being and their clinical outcomes — and offer access to clinical research, trials and new technologies.
“We are confident that every successful treatment plan is the product of collaboration between an informed patient and a knowledgeable physician,” expresses Dr. Vivas.
